A Quick Trip Around The Neighborhood

11.2 miles in 53 minutes 46 seconds.

Instead of always doing 30+ miles, I've decided to do rides of varying lengths for a change of pace and so my legs don't get used to the same workout each time.

Blue Skies and Sunshine!

30.8 miles in 2:37.

T-shirt and shorts with 70 degrees!

Saw 3 other trikers and one recumbent biker on the trail.

Life is good.

First Ride of the Year!

I haven't been riding since November 22nd.

I finally got the trike fixed (a minor repair) and went out and did 26.8 miles in 2 hours and 20 minutes.

I need to get my legs back into shape and build back up to doing 35 to 50 mile rides again.

I was doing a lot of walking but that isn't the same as cycling.

Total Mileage For 2010

I bought my trike on June 8, 2010.

Between then and the end of the year, I racked up 2,194 miles.

Not too bad considering I hadn't been doing any cycling for 16 years.

I hope to do at least 4,000 miles this year.

Perfect Weather For Riding!

33.5 / 2:46

It was only about 50 degrees, so it was cool enough to be comfortable and warm enough, but not enough to get overheated.

Cold Morning / Warm Afternoon

2:57 / 34.8

I went out at 7 this morning to walk the dog.  It was 36 degrees, so I thought I'd wait until it warmed up.  I left at 12:30 and it was 71 degrees and I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and shorts.  At 7, I was wearing sweats, a Gore-Tex jacket and gloves!

As I was going down the road toward home, a pickup truck slowed down and a guy asked me how comfortable my trike was.  I told him it was like pedaling a lawn chair.  He looked like he wanted to get out of the truck and try it, but they took off.

I saw this guy watching me, so I snapped a couple pictures;

My Longest Ride so Far!

It was nice and cool this morning, so I decided to do a longer ride.
I went down a couple new stretches of road and then connected to my regular route.

My total was 55.8 miles in 4 hours and 24 minutes.  This is the third 50+ mile ride I've done.

I also found a road that was a long, gradual incline, so I actually got to climb a hill for a change!
Most of the stuff around here can only be called gentle slopes and not much else.

I didn't even realize the road was going up hill until I noticed it was getting harder to pedal.
I had to shift to lower gears about five times before I got to the top.

When I reached the top, I took this picture;
It doesn't look like much of a hill in this shot,
so I zoomed in and cropped the photo to give you a closer look;

If you look WAY down the road where it meets the base of those mountains,
that is where I turned onto this road.
It felt good to climb a hill for a change and my legs are really feeling it, now!

About 6 miles before I got to that hill, I stopped and took this picture of a hawk and it's nest;
Let's zoom in for a closer look;
That's it for now.  Thanks for stopping by!

Racking up the miles!

I've gone 1,000 more miles in the past 69 days.
That averages out to about 14.5 miles per day.
Today's ride was 2:35 / 32.8

First COLD Morning

2:14 / 27

It was actually cold for the first time this morning.  My face and ears got kind of chilly, but it warmed up after 15 miles and I had to take off the sweatshirt.

This is my desert oasis.
It's on the outskirts of a new housing area.
One of these days, I know it will be gone.
I'll just have to find another oasis.

Splish Splash

2:50 / 35

I was riding on a new bike path and didn't notice one lawn sprinkler that hadn't been adjusted properly. Instead of stopping at the edge of the grass and going back the other way, this one kept going and as I passed it, within less than 3 feet, that dang sprinkler hit me right in the face under the right side of my glasses!

My face was dripping wet and I was now looking at life through water soaked lenses. I just laughed out loud and kept going.  Thankfully, it's still not that cold in the morning, so it actually felt rather refreshing.

I took a few more water fountain pix, just for the heck of it.

This was taken in front of the post office.

Just another ride on the usual route.

Here are a few pix I took for your viewing enjoyment;

This is one of the main roads in town, and this is the usual amount of traffic I see every time I ride.
This is also what late October in Southern Arizona looks like.
Blue skies, sunshine and 73 degrees.  You can keep the snow!
Another view of the same road.

The Dirty Dozen
I stopped to take a break and when I looked up, I saw these guys looking at me.
Please don't tell me you actually counted the number of birds!
I wouldn't lie to you.

This is our dog, Chico
He's camera shy.

Not as cold as the last ride

2:41 / 34.7

It warmed up today and I had to stop halfway through my ride to remove my sweatshirt and gloves.  Had a great ride and took a few pix.  Nothing exciting, but it is something to look at.  Thanks for stopping by.

IT'S GETTING NICE AND COOL!

2:44 / 34.1

I had to wear sweatpants and a fleece sweatshirt and gloves this morning because it is finally staying cool all day long.  It felt good to feel the cool air during the whole ride instead of for just the first half hour or so.

2:11 / 27.8

I ride on this road on all of my daily rides.

Yes, there are cotton fields in Arizona.

Fill 'er up?  No thanks!
This is the County Refueling Station, which is right next to the start of the bike path.
I see cop cars here all the time.

2:10 / 28.3

Just for a change of pace, I took a little shorter route.  As soon as it cools off some more, I want to start doing double laps of my regular route  and going further from home to see if I can find any other roads that aren't too rough and bumpy.

I stop in the park and refill my bottles
 to make sure I never run dry.

It's Getting Colder!

2:43 / 33.5

I had to put on a long sleeved t-shirt, sweat pants, gloves and a windbreaker this morning!  After months of wearing sleeveless shirts and cargo shorts, it is quite a change.

The cold morning air felt really good.  I didn't have to stop to take the windbreaker off until 8 o'clock.  I think I'll start sleeping in for an extra hour or two and let it warm up before I go for my morning rides from now on.

I suppose this is the base of an old water tower.

This is to the immediate left of the old water tower.
See that long, flat road?
That's what most of the roads around here look like.

Chilly Weather!

2:45 / 34

I did my regular ride, but it FINALLY is starting to cool off around here.  It was so cool I had to cover my hands with the sleeves of my t-shirt to keep my hands warm.  It is SO nice to be done with the 100+ temperatures we've had for the past few months.

Trike Riders In The Sky

2:43 / 34

As I started out on my ride this morning, I encountered a couple fellow trikers.

They were traveling much faster than I, but one of them waved at me as he went by.

The first guy had flown by and then I heard the second one, so I grabbed my camera from my pocket and snapped a few pix as they sailed away.

It looked like they were only about 10 feet above the power lines as they went by.

The first guy was low enough that when he looked down as we waved at each other, I could actually see him smiling.  It was as if he were saying, "Keep pedaling my earthbound brother, and someday, you too will fly."

This is the beginning of the bike path I ride on.

Another Half Century Ride!

I went 51.3 miles in 5 hours and 35 minutes.

I seem to be getting faster....and my tires are were properly aligned this time!

It's the middle of September and it's still above 100 degrees!
