Another Half Century Ride!

4:19 / 51.6

The last time I did a Half Century was on July 22nd.

I went 51.3 miles in 5 hours and 35 minutes.

I seem to be getting faster....and my tires are were properly aligned this time!

Here's a few pix of the irrigation canal I pass on my rides.

I know it's not the most exciting photography, but at least it's something to look at.

Too Hot For 50

3:18 / 42.7

I was planning on doing 50 miles, but it was getting too hot.
It's the middle of September and it's still above 100 degrees!

An Uneventful Ride

3:04 / 37.7

I took a picture in this same spot a few weeks ago, but today there was a small herd of cattle watering at the river, so I took another pic;

Dogs and Turtles

2:41 / 34.7

I was riding down one of the many rural roads that surround this area, this morning.  There's open farmland on both sides.  They use concrete irrigation canals to water the fields.  The canals were filled with running water about 2 feet deep.

I see this guy walking on the other side of the road coming toward me with two dogs.  Both dogs looked like big, yellow labs with a little bit of something else mixed in.  One of the dogs was on a leash and the other one was not.

When I was about a block away, the loose dog crossed over to my side of the road.  I thought he was coming over to check out the strange vehicle (me) that was coming toward him.  He didn't appear to be the least bit agressive, so I figured I'd just stop and pet him.

Well, that dog was not the least bit interested in me.  He walked over to the edge of the irrigation canal and looked down for a second and then he jumped in!

As I rode past him I looked over and he was standing in water up to his chest and was looking at me.  I swear that dog was smiling and had a look on his face that said, "Ah!  This water feels SO good!"

About 20 minutes later, I was going down a deserted country road when I saw this little guy;

Here's a closer look;
He stopped in the middle of the road as I went past.
I did a U-Turn to go back and take his picture.
As I started to pedal away, a white pickup truck came around the corner and was heading toward the turtle.  I figured I'd go back and move the turtle to the side of the road before it got hit by a car.
The guy in the truck had the same idea!  He stopped in the middle of the road right beside the turtle.
He put on his flashers and got out just as I pulled up behind him.

As he bent down to pick up the turtle, I said "That's just what I was going to do."
He started to walk to the side of the road the turtle had come from. I laughed and said, "He was going the other way!"  Not that it really makes any difference, but this guy took me seriously and said, "Oh, was he?"  He turned around and took the turtle to the other side of the road and put it down on the grassy shoulder.

This guy was wearing a shirt and tie and looked like he was going to work, so I thought it was pretty cool of him to take the time to stop and rescue the turtle.

He said, Enjoy the rest of your ride.  It sure is a beautiful day!" and then he got in his truck and drove away.  It's simple gestures like that that make me smile when I see a random act of kindness.

A Cool Sunday Morning Ride

2:45 / 37

Another cool morning and another great ride.  Here are a few pix I took along the way;

I took these two pix to see if I could catch the morning sun shining through the mist, but they didn't turn out the way I had hoped they would.

When it's finished, this will be the new medical center.
I don't go down this road during the week,
because it's too busy with all the construction that's going on.

Cool Breezin' and No Sneezin'!

2:45 / 35

It was nice and COOL this morning!  It was cool enough I had to wear a long sleeved t-shirt and sweatpants.  I did a few extra miles just to enjoy the cooler temps. The cooler weather also seems to have killed whatever has been in the air and causing my alleriges to go crazy for the past month.

This is the community park I ride through on most of my rides.

Back in June, when I first got my trike, I was riding on one of the many back roads that lead out into the open desert and I came across this sign;

Well, today I went back out there for the first time since then and this is what I saw;
Besides clearing away some of the brush, they removed the sign.
I don't know if the state had it removed or a ticked off citizen did it.
I certainly won't miss it.  Instead of warning US about THEM, they should warn THEM about US.  After all, THEY are the ones invading OUR country.  Let THEM be afraid of US.
If you're a bleeding heart liberal that sees nothing wrong with ILLEGAL immigration, please pull your brain out of your butt, would ya?

This sign was just a short distance past the sign that isn't there any more;
When it gets cooler, I'd like to get with a few other riders and cruise out into the open desert.

I Forgot To Post This Yesterday

I rode 28 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes.

I had a great ride, but nothing worth writing about happened and I didn't take any pix.

Yeah, I know it sounds rather boring, but it is what it is.

First Group Ride

2:11 / 25.1

After riding solo for over 1,000 miles, I was finally able to hook up with a few guys from the Tucson Recumbent Cyclist Club for a ride this morning.

I drove into Tucson for the 6:15 a.m. start time.  When I got there, one of the guys was fixing a flat tire.  Thankfully, he had it fixed in no time and three of us took of on our trikes.  Jeff has an ICE, the other Jeff has a Catrike 700 and I on my Expedition. We went a few miles and met Dan on his Barcroft Virginia two-wheeled Bent.

We rode around on some of the city streets, the U of A campus and spent some time on one of the long bike paths.  I was able to do some sprints and spent the rest of the time cruising and enjoyng the company of my fellow cyclists.  It felt strange not be by myself.  I told the other three I felt like Charlton Heston in "The Planet of the Apes when he discovered there were other humans on the planet!

Here are a bunch of pix in no particular order;

Chiilin' at a red light.

Right back where we started from.

Cooler and Faster

2:18 / 28.5

The air was nice and cool for the first half hour and it didn't get hot during the entire ride.
It's supposed to go up to 106 today, but it's taking time getting there for a change.

I did one of my regular routes to the post office and did a few sprints along the way.
I managed to set a new highest speed of 25 mph.

This is the exit from the community park I ride through on all of my daily rides.

The following three pictures weren't taken on my ride, but they are cycle related.
Our mechanic made this weather vane from a pair of wheels and some plastic hoses.

Cool Breeze

2:12 / 24.9

I rode over to the post office, picked up the mail and came home.

When I left the house, there was a breeze blowing and it was cooler than ususal.

For a brief moment it gave me the feeling that Fall is right around the corner and these high temps will be gone pretty soon.
